The beginning of 2018 has been a busy one with two new crew and some changes for Ignite in 2018.
Last week saw us farewell the glowing Emma Bakker as she goes on maternity leave but she has not left us empty handed with the vibrant Allie Thomsen who takes over as Shift Coordinator after shadowing Emma for the last month. She comes to us with a wealth of experience and a passion for seeing young women get active and achieve their dreams.
Joining the team in 2018 on a part-time basis is Eric Mailau. Eric volunteered with Ignite Sport last year and caught the vision. His focus is on working with the Oho Ake programme in Wainuiomata where he lives and is part of a community programme called Urban Neighbours of Hope. His wife Anna gave birth to a new baby boy the week before starting.
Josh Cody fresh of his gap year with us comes on board as a fully fledged Youth Development Worker this year. It is great to see him take more of a lead this year as he continues to share his verve for life with the young people and the staff alike.
March also sees the return of Matt Goldsbury. After Matt and wife Laura spent a year in Auckland for Laura's work, Matt comes back to us full of new ideas picked up whilst working for the YMCA in Auckland and ready to reconnect with the schools and kids he worked with previously.
For the next three months we also have a new intern from Youth Inspire Molly (Maere-Ana) Weston who is settling in fast and has hit the ground running tramping the Tongariro crossing last week on our first trip of the year.
With Kev, Dan, Eli, Char, Alex, David, Di, Anne, Paul, Iona and Manan still on staff we look forward to a great year of awesome opportunities and great memories.
